The heart of Opportunity is the right teacher with the right training and support.
The success of the Opportunity Program is directly related to the experience, training, and personal aptitude of the Opportunity teachers. Opportunity teachers are more than just instructional technicians. They understand why an instructional methodology or curriculum works so they can better adapt to the needs of their students. Opportunity is committed to providing our teachers with a growing "box of instructional tools" that are affective. On-going training in approved, "whole-person", multi-sensory instructional practices is essential to the success of the program.
Advanced Multi-Sensory Instructional Training: Opportunity works with training organizations such a The Slingerland Institute, The Dyslexia Research Foundation and Lindamood-Bell to facilitate advanced training. Opportunity teachers must complete the required training as defined by Opportunity Schools.
Professional Development Programs: In addition to the above required training, Opportunity Schools provides additional mid-year and summer training that is taught by a combination of Opportunity Staff and outside leading experts in the field of educational invention.
As part of our professional development, Opportunity staff also provides on-site, in-service training for school-wide staff on topics that integrate the effectiveness of the Opportunity Program school-wide, i.e. Accommodations and Modifications.
